Honesty is not the best policy. If you are truly honest you're just giving the employer further opportunities to take advantage of you. I would say stretching the truth, protecting yourself, and not letting information leak out (which would cause a conflict of interest) to your employer is the best policy. It is dumb to be completely honest with employers in 2014.

If you are out of a job and honesty isn't working out, you'll start lying if it means keeping a roof over your head and food in your stomach.
