True story....

Guy comes in to interview at my friend’s company. The interview actually went pretty well and my friend wanted to hire him. The guy says “I am in the running for a job at XYZ though so please let me know quickly.” My friend says “Oh you mean Joe’s company XYZ?” Guy says “Oh you know Joe? Yeah those guys.” Guy leaves.

My friend then emailed Joe saying “Hey, Guy came in to interview with us today and he said that he’s in the running for a job with you. Since you found him first, it’s only fair that you can have him.” Joe responds “We turned him down last week. But interestingly enough I just got this email from him (forwarded).” Guy basically sent Joe an email rigtht after the interview saying “Hi Joe, I just interviewed with this company and they want to hire me. Can you tell them that you want to hire me so that I can get the most money out of these guys?”

Lol…he wasn’t given an offer. Guy basically shot himself in the foot by being dishonest…he would have gotten the job.

Wow thats a good lesson in honesty. Happens to people think who they are smarter than everyone else & no one can call them out for their manipulative ways.

That is one for the books! It's a small world. Things get around.

Nice to see someone like that got what he deserved. NOTHING.

Certainly, if potential employers colluding in order to avoid competing for the same worker, you'd better not tell anybody much of anything.

The world is smaller than most people think...

I spent over 10 years working in tech in Southern California and over the years at various companies I was almost always in a hiring role so I saw the same resumes come by over and over again.

Many times it's actually not about what you did but how you did it. How you ended your last day, how you turned down a job, how you behaved towards the receptionist and folks who you didn't think were important, etc.

I agree. There's a shelf life for how long people get away with that, and once they're found out - it's generally over.

I have told people many times on here and in real life that people in the same area of the country in the same lines of work all know each other, if you are going to lie to do not lie about something that may be very easy to verify. such as a job offer from a company that you are not being considered for.

It's certainly the best policy if you can't get away with lying :-)
