The longest distance for an interview was about 2,000 miles each way, all expenses paid.
The longest distance during a job is hard to calculate. I once had a contract with a company that had facilities in 26 states, and I had to spend at least a day in each of them. I live in the Greater Lost Angeles area, so I'd fly to the East Coast on Sunday. Monday morning I'd go to one of the facilities, then drive or fly to the next one that night. Tuesday and Wednesday, likewise. On Thursday I'd go to the final facility for that week, then fly back to Lost Angeles that night.
I wound up doing this entire cycle three times, for three different projects. It paid well, and I enjoyed the work, but the heavy travel schedule wasn't a whole heap of fun.
From the DC area, I have traveled to Los Angeles, San Diego, Houston, Northern New Jersey, Atlanta, Baltimore, and Roanoke, VA for job interviews (these are all the cities I can remember). To actually take a position, I moved around 2600 miles from the DC area to LA, and then the same distance back to the DC area when I took another job subsequently. I've since moved the 225 miles to Roanoke.
just wondering , because i know my brother travelled to the other side of the country for his current job , so just wondering how far is the furthest you have travelled for a job or a job interview?
When I worked for the railroad, I'd drive 5-6hrs one way on a regular basis for work I'd stay there the whole week. Once I drove 12hrs to New York. Glad that doesn't happen anymore.
Moved almost 740 miles from Metro Detroit area to south of Raleigh NC. Three years later we moved back for a job here.
Currently commute 45 miles one way from Brighton to Detroit.
