Cuz women are killing them off? Not intentionally (well usually not). In the 15-24 age group and 55-65 age groups women outnumber men. Starting in their 40's men's rates of cardiovascular disease starts to rise. http://jerrymondo.tripod.com/lgev/id2.html

I know in Arizona, construction is the backbone of the economy with new home building as we as new stores and plants for companies. The recession slowed this to a snail's pace. Company building is up but not yet new home building.

Edit: Also once someone doesn't have a job and cannot find a job, they find it much harder to get back into the working world (partially) because of the availability heuristic.
