If I were you, I would relocate to somewhere like Houston or Austin. They are growing immensely, which means lots of jobs. And they are very cheap relative to other large cities, particularly LA or NYC.
Wow, you sound like me in many ways. Best of luck to you. I'd say relocate, but try to make the road trip enjoyable. For instance, if you move to Denver, don't just drive across I-70 for two days. Going across Kansas on I-70 will make you want to kill yourself. (I see you're going to LA now. If you're driving, enjoy the drive across NM and AZ or CO and UT. But don't go out to CO on I-70.) I'm planning on relocating soon. But before I moved home, I did spend a couple of weeks traveling (in the US). It did cost a little bit of money, but I was pretty frugal with it and I don't regret it for a second.
Not a female, but who cares if your family approves. They can live their lives, you get to live yours.
I'd second the recommendation to avoid super expensive cities if you can. This means NYC, LA, SF, Boston, DC, maybe a couple others like Seattle or Chicago. If you do go to an expensive city, skip the travel (but still try to make the trip enjoyable).
No one's going to call you back until you're local. To anyone saying "don't move until you have a job," do you want to apply for jobs with one hand tied behind your back or two?
You can still apply to internships, but don't focus on them too much IMO. I've received even fewer calls back for internships and when they do, they say "so you're not in college anymore?" And I resist saying "didn't you look at my resume before calling me?"
Just glanced at the 11 best cities for broke millennials article. Disagree about ABQ. When I stopped there, it seemed pretty depressed and empty. When I looked at job listings online there, there was essentially nothing. It's probably pretty cheap though.
Thanks for the posts everyone. I decided to relocate to Los Angeles, and I have been working towards making that happen!
I'm baaaackkkk! (to the forums I mean).
Still in Naptown
First thing I did was make a fundraiser-esque chat and marked it with my 5 choice cities to relocate to by how much it would cost me to relocate:
NYC (duh.)
SF
DC
LA
CHI
Actually leaning towards DC...because of the cultural stuff (museums, art, history, etc), walkability, stable economy, non-profit jobs (had a few), communication jobs, and its proximity to NYC and other large cities. The more I research the more I like it.
*Shakes fist* Soon the world will be mine!
As always thank you for the replies to my drunken rants.
