Tip on using personal phone for work data... don't. It gives the company the right to confiscate the phone if they think there is a breach in security or a lawsuit comes up and they need to show where the connections are coming from.
If you need a phone, get a company provided one or a throw away one that you only use for work.
I'm a contractor and my boss doesn't work at the office that I work at (its a pretty big office). The desktops for the company do have internet access but I'm using a laptop issued by my contractor. I need options for wifi so that I can have internet access at the office.

See if you can get them to allow you to expense a wireless router from a place like Staples Office or have the client purchase the item for you. They are cheap too. This way you don't have any out of pocket costs to deal with and more importantly, when security comes to want to beat you with a stick for doing something they don't understand and consider illegal, you can claim "The wireless router isn't mine!" just before they tase you.
You should seriously check with whoever is in charge of IT for the company before you do anything, because there could be a real reason they don't allow Wifi there and it's best to get it cleared by them, and they might even put one in for you.

Just so I'm clear. The laptop is issued by your employer, but you're a contractor working at a client site. So you're looking for a way to connect your laptop to your 'corporate office'. Yes?
I'm assuming your client isn't allowing you to connect the laptop to their network (hence providing you with a workstation)? Do they not have a "guest" wifi network that you can use?
If this is the case, you should get your employer to get you a mifi or cellular hotspot (assuming you can get a good signal at the client site). There is no reason why YOU should have to pay for that.

Why not connect via ethernet cable like the desktops do?
We have a set up at work like this. I work as a contractor for the govt. there are some limitations to what the govt allows on their network. (Youtube, any social media etc) and we use our cell phones as hot spots.
