I actually just got hired for a full time position through a staffing agency with a Fortune 500 company. I will effectively be getting a ~50% increase in pay, something I would have never got for a long time at my former employer (only there for exactly 2 years).
It's a long term opportunity with some benefits and potential for being hired on directly.
It's not even a position I applied for. The person at the agency found my resume on their network and thought I would be a good fit for the opening. The rest was history.
I'm in Michissippi...I mean Michigan BTW, a place that was hit hardest in this recession when the Big 3 automakers went bankrupt. I'm also just a Junior in College.
I do have my opinions about temp-to-hire work, but in this case the pros outweigh the cons easily. If by chance the contract ends, the agency will likely assign me to another contract. I'll also be gaining more experience and I can use the pay I was earning here to negotiate the pay for my next position.
These recruiters often send out hundreds of emails to people they find on linkein saying that "Youre the perfect candidate, give me a call in the morning." Then in the morning about 15 people will reply, and youre one of them. That's why it took him/her so long to get back with you. Theyre very slimy in my experience because theyre willing to tell lots of little white lies to get you interested. In fact it was about this time last year that I was being trailed along by a recruiter and ended up spending Thanksgiving eve in an Airport for 7 hours because the company flew me down for an interview, then decided to hold off to see if the recruiter could find any BETTER people than me. I was perfectly qualified.
Is it a type of position you are qualified for or were even looking for? Is this salary in line with what you are seeking or is it a huge jump?
If it isn't a position you were actively seeking or is a much higher salary than you have been getting I'd say there is a good chance it is bait to get you to sign up to meet his quote.
And just like that, I hear crickets. Yah, probably to help said recruiter 'fill his quota for the week'
I am not going to email them except for 2x a month, as someone suggested ealier.
