Default How much do NURSES make in Houston?

I will soon be graduating from nursing school, Dec 2008. I am looking to move to houston. Can anybody tell me what a Registered Nurse, fresh out of college would be making ($$$)?

thanx

Nursing salaries in most Texas markets range from beginning salaries of $30-35,000 to over $200,000; salaries reflect level of education.

As an RN, you'll do quite well. You should see anything from the mid 50's to the $60's starting out. Congratulations to you on your upcoming graduation! Texas Medical Center hospitals are always looking for great RN's and pay nice bonuses due to the nursing shortage here; definitely do not take the first offer that comes along and know you are in a position to negotiate.

My sister has been in home health care nursing for 20(+) yrs. in Houston. She sets her own hours and makes great money for the actual hours she is working. Nurses have always been in short supply....so you should have no problem finding work in any part of town and shop those sign on bonuses! Good Luck!

hi, well i am a high school student and we are doing a project on what we want to be when we grow up, so if someone could answer my questions as soon as possible that would be great!

1.) How long did you go to school?
2.) Do you enjoy your job?
3.) How much do you make starting out?
4.) How much do people make that are just starting out?

You will do quite Well. Just don't think you will make 200K in year 1. get some experience and continue the education. Similar to Physicians you can choose your place to live in. We have a few neighbors that are nurses. They love the idea of working so close to home. My Mom was a Nurse, RN for 30+ years before retiring. She topped out at 85K. She did not have any extra specialization, and did not work overtime. Just remember it is not about the MONEY! that will come it time with any profession.

Mom2Feebs is right, mid 50's at the TMC for an RN right out of college. There are also plenty of opportunities to make more than that by working overtime, being on call or working the night shift.

According to my wife (who is an RN) the most important thing to do is first decide what area of the hospital you want to work. You'll burn out very quickly if for example you take a job working with the elderly if you don't like adult care.
