But not everybody can just automatically get a government job. Again, posts like yours make this forum so unhelpful.

Americans in general have poor financial planning and habits. I have 3 cars and they're all fully paid off I don't owe a dime.

I have very low debts and can leverage any of my interest free Credit Card for a year if I need to stay afloat.

Because of this I have leverage and dictate to the workplace my needs or else I'm gone.
Actually, I live a very modest lifestyle and save a lot of money. What I meant is, I work for what I consider to be the only employer in my field that is a reasonable commute from where I live. I do not want to relocate, since I want to be near the rest of my family. If I lose this job, the only option is a long commute into New York City for a job that would require ridiculous hours and not pay enough to afford to live close enough to the city to even have a reasonable commute.

Most Americans I know who work with people internationally think Americans are superior to work for and in terms of performance and complain about how their long summer brekas get in the way of business.

I personally think I would prefer the European lifestyle eat late, stay up late, go into work late, go home for an hour or two lunch relax and unwind go home nap go out and enjoy friends and family til late hours.

I'm not naive enough to think I can entirely change American culture myself though. If I want that lifestyle I can either move to one of those contries or I can choose to get a less high stress high pressure long hour job and live here and try to make my life and lifestyle the way I want.

What about an elementary school cafeteria worker? Or a school receptionist? Or a receptionist at a Dr's office?

Even call centers generally offer this.

Jobs like these are hard to get. Remember during the economic turndown many school districts had to lay off people. The housing crises killed them. We're do you think schools get a majority of there money property taxes that's we're . The more foreclosure's the less property taxe money to go to the school districts. A receptionist at a dr office is just above min wage and mostly part time.

I'm sorry, what jobs are "easy" to get?

I have over 5 weeks now.

Maternity leave up to 18 months in some countries.
My wife left for a couple years after our youngest was born. No one is keeping anyone from taking time off with their kids. My mom was a housewife her entire life. she still is.
What gives?

Socialism? A more advanced society?
Tell that to the people in Cuba.

A greater desire to enjoy life?
Most Americans are doing just fine in the enjoying life arena, many are doing more enjoying life than they need to. What we need is people willing to work more and invest in themselves.

More benevolent employers?
Forced incentives. Not the best thing for business.

Cultural values?
Im taxed enough as it is. Why would I want to be taxed even more?

Here in this nation we can accomplish way more than any other place on the planet. If you don't like your employer you can leave, go somewhere else, or start your own company. Not all nations are like that. Even when you do start your own company many times the governement tells you how to run it in other nations.

To answer your "title" YES!

Brainwashing works well here. I would replace "naive" with another word actually...

Speaking like a true "naive"!

All countries that are not communist (save for China), are having private companies on every corner.

Also, "taxes" in countries all through Europe, are actually used for the citizens unlike here where they all go to the military and to pay 6 figures to politicians that accomplish nothing for the average Joe.

It's sad really when the American Ignorance takes over every shred of common sense!
