I am going on 28, and I have been trying to get a job since graduating high school. But over the years even in high school, I've noticed my parents telling me what to do about what to do when it came to working.

Like in high school I worked retail at the mall, but because I got off work at 9PM-10PM my mom especially didn't like these hours so I had quit.

Then other jobs I've come close to getting, they were graveyard shifts working from midnight to 5AM or from the morning until midnight. And again my mom did not like those hours so I couldn't go for it.

My mom wants me to work like Jack in the Box, Carl's Jr., McDonalds, etc. She says they will hire ANYONE. '
She also wants me to work near home, not 45-1 hour away.

And now that I have my driver's license she won't even let me drive, due to no insurance and won't let me use the car either.

So I am stuck and don't know what to do or where to work to make her happy. What should I do?

Why are you still living with your mom at age 28?

It sounds like because her mother won't allow her to get a job.

'won't even let you drive'?
My viewpoint: move out and live your own life.

(I don't mean to sound rude or obnoxious, I just get irritated when I hear about parents who don't realize their adult-aged kids are adults)

How can I move out when I have no money and no job and no place to live?

Tell your mom you're getting a job. If she says no, punch her.

Based on your name and post, I think you should do the disney internship. They provide housing and meal plan, (taken out of your pay) then you have probably $200 a week left over. Plus having disney on your resume screams great customer service skills so you can get a better paying job later.

I can't do internships without going to college and I don't go to college nor do I plan or want too.

What employable skills have you learned in those 10 years since high school?

Maybe it's time for you to forget about what you want to do and start thinking about what you need to do. When you gain financial independence, then you can start making decisions based on what you want.

At 28 you are an adult. You are letting your mother control the outcome of your life. Grow up, get a job you want and move out.
