Sometimes it's good to take risks in life. Especially since you are young. Why not try and see how you like the corporate environment, especially since there is high earning potential?
Easy - corporate all the way, a real no brainer. That is assuming you understand your work and are at least ok at it. If you're a complete stupid idiot, who can't be accountable or responsible, then take the government job and coast under the radar.
In my experience if you want to work hard and do a good job and have a secure job then government is for you. I you are skilled at office politics and are comfortable being a manager or supervisor then the private sector is for you. Many private sector employers will put you on salary and force you to work 60+ hours a week so you may not in the end make more money. As for meritocracy, I haven't seen much in the private sector though it might or might not be present in govt either.
The nice thing to me about govt jobs is that there are rules about how much they can mess with you and bleep you over.
Difference is, you need to be an extroverted outgoing Sociopath (With self promoting and backstabbing abilities probably thrown in there) to reach the high levels of Corporate America.
You don't need that in government.
So a lot of it depends on your personality traits as well
The govt. job position was filled, and I am will probably be interview for another position with a different agency in the next week or two. Similar pay. It is crazy I have been looking for work since September, and all of a sudden I have been getting contacted for interviews. 3 completely different opportunities in the past 10 days.
