I am looking to move to a small town. My civilian back ground is in Early Childhood. My military background is in medical. Right now I live in a large suburb of Chicago. I want to move but not unless I got a job lined up. My dream is to work for a small town daycare, park district or something related. Any thoughts please let me know.

Thank you!

It's possible but prepared to make a much lower salary if you can even find a job in a small town.

Get a job before you go. Prepare for a lower salary, even relative to cost of living. Most small towns are struggling economically and the economy has shifted in such a way that small towns are at a disadvantage.

Depending on your definition of a small town, there may not even be daycare centers around, more home day cares or no option available in town.

You can usually get licensed to do home day care, and there is often a need, but it takes time to get licensed and build up a clientele.

I, too, live in a suburb of Chicago and can tell you that even our daycare centers and park districts don't really pay much, so I think minimum wage is probably what they pay in a small town for such jobs. If that works for you, that's great. If not, it's something to consider.

What do you consider to be a small town? I assume you know that early childhood education does not pay well. Do you have a degree in the field?

I know most of the above. Small town 1111 or less?
