Default Employment refererence letters

When you visit an employer for an interview are you supposed to submit the orignal reference letter or a copy of it?

There is no such thing as a reference letter. You probably mean recommendation letter. And if that's the case, they are worthless. Just rely on your skills

A letter of recommendation is requested from employers. Give them the original.

I have color copies of originals which I've furnished to employers. They have come in handy as one professional reference has died (!), and others may have since moved on to other endeavors/locatons. Many invite to call for any "additional info, if needed", but these formal letters have actually sufficed in leau of phone calls on many occasions.

I once made the mistake of giving an original to one place; the referring former boss got married and moved, so no way of a potential employer ever getting his imput.

I did mean reference letter. Which does exist and is actually slightly different from a rec letter. Anyway thanks everyone for your input.

I never do, the less they get the better. On my CV I will say "References upon request". Some ask and some don't. But I tend to interview very well and sell myself. Repugnant, huh? Am in the process of not having to do that anymore, or being anyone else's stooge. So hopefully my next real job will be my own business!
