The detriment is in how OP is handling the coworker, and not needing earbuds... which some employers discourage wearing. The next time a problem comes up with another co-worker, I doubt wearing a turtle neck this time is going to solve it. he'll run out of things to wear if he keeps avoiding dealing with his co-workers.

Yeah I like the poster about blaming themselves. I do this too, I may say something along the lines of, I have a splitting headache and just am not feeling well, would appreciate peace and quiet to focus on work. Good advice.
