No problem that I see.
I aim to make as much as I can without having to manage people

I hadn't intended to be a manager again when I started working where I do now, but after 18 months an opening came up and I applied and got it. Making about 40% more than I did before is well worth the additional responsibility, and I still only work 40 hours a week. I see directors above me working less than 40 hours, climbing the ladder doesn't always mean losing free time, but it does almost always mean making more money. When you get closer to retirement age, that will become even more important as it makes a big difference in both your pension and social security checks.

That's your choice. As long as you don't start blaming others for your missed opportunities, work whatever schedule you want. Personally, I prefer working overnights because my circadian rhythms are set that way. It doesn't mean that I won't work other shifts if I need to, but when I have a choice I'll always take the overnights. Plus, working overnights enables me to still do my side jobs from home, which doubles my income.

If you are into getting more free time in your life try to get on the graveyard shift. (11pm-7am) You get the hours of 7am to 11pm to do what you want to do. Working 9-5 gets you up early to fight rush hour traffic to work all day then come home around 6ish,shyte/shave/shower and supper and its now around 8pm,i'm not seeing much time in the day left for you, also you are basically forced to take a day off work if you have to go see your doctor or take your car in for repairs.
Also nightshift gives much more flexibility on the time you devote to that 8 hours of sleep,as you can do it morning/afternoon or evening depending on what you want to do during the day..

Nothing "wrong" with it at all and there have always been people with work hour preferences. Why do you think this labels you "obsessive"? Did somebody say something to you which made you feel your position to be unusual in some way?

You need to adjust 9 to 5 to 8 to 5 for 8 hour days with a 1 hour lunch.

I am with you there. The only time I worked odd hours was in my early 20s when I was going to school. After that it was either 7:30 - 4:00 or 8:00 - 4:30.

As long as you accept none might ever come up, and deal with all financial consequences of waiting around, no problem.
