OP- If you analyze comments like this so closely (especially at work), you'll age much faster and drive yourself crazy! We've all probably done it (I'll be the first to admit I have), but it's not healthy. Now some people could make comments are that are inappropriate and cross the line, but this wasn't one of them.
The boss was just teasing you and making conversation. Lighten up--too many people today read much more into what is said to them than is intended and then take offense. This was just chit-chat like was previously said.
It was just the "chit" part... the "chatting" part didn't happen. OP didn't take this chance to talk with the big boss and lost a chance to get to know him/network with him...

The big boss came by (he usually comes by to joke with us once in a while)
As a boss, he has no reason to stand in line for donuts... he most likely does it to get to know the employees... it is his way of seeing how the people he manages are doing without judging them solely on job performance... and all he got was an "offended" response? How often do people on CD wish they could talk with the big boss and not have it "on record"? And he gives you guys this chance, and you are just upset because of how he "breaks" the ice?

But OP did say she (I think OP is female?) laughed and just said no, so please don't worry the OP about her opportunity to network and make a connection being gone. Hopefully, there will be another (or several chances). Just as she shouldn't scrutinize a comment like the big boss made so hard, she shouldn't beat herself up about her quiet reaction on that occassion, either.
Chances are this was the last thing the big boss was worried about, and her reaction really didn't faze him one way or another, or he just thought she was in a quiet mood at that very moment (no big deal). It's all good; nothing really inappropriate from either person- she probably just needs to relax a bit more (don't we all sometimes! ).

You are right about analyzing comments. I don't really analyze others comments but I do my own cause I fear saying something wrong.
Anyway OP I agree this was not a comment towards your weight. To me it was more about the best tasting ones being gone quickly.
There were Dunkin Donut munchkins in our dept (there is like 4 of us in the row). The big boss came by (he usually comes by to joke with us once in a while) to get some donuts and said there wasn't any good ones left and then joking asked me if I ate all the good ones (I only had 2). I laughed and said no but I figure since I have to loose 40 lbs that it was a knock on my weight? One other women is bigger than me and the 2 other girls are thin.
I don't think he meant it that way. You were on good terms before, so why would he want that to change?
