For STEM either a government, particularly FED, or some small to mid size companies value employee retention, experience, and institutional knowledge over churn and burn cheap young employees. At the interview take a look arround. If everyone is in there 20's and 30's it is a good bet you might be dealing with a churn and burn company.

Defiantly true. If you don't find a job that isn't from the federal government or a small to mid size close knit company that respects its employees you end working for a large company that is a coporate America slave that uses you for their dirty work or get the job done and then they wash their hands to you. The IT and science profession are quite similar and that they look for the best candidates they can get for cheap as possible and hire them as a temp with no benefits. My company all the temps are individuals in their early to late 20s as we are the only ones willing to work as temps to build our resumes up with experience and keep looking for perm positions in as a chemist; however, it appears the experience I am getting is not helpful in building my resume up because I am doing very repetitive tasks and basic wet chemistry. It seems this job I am in now is only good for a paycheck to pay the bills.

Small shops, but there are also downsides to that like fewer benefits and often worse pay.
