I sent an anonymous email with an account i created to my company's benefits office. I work at a very large institution. I am kind of regretting it now. Would they bother to track me down? I don't see why they'd really care enough to...or if they could track it given IP addresses change. Just wondering if anyone's ever had a moment and done anything similar.
i created a fake email account, a mail.com account
i'm not sure they'd bother...but i told my husband and got upset saying maybe they'd trace it back to me. There are soo many people that work where i work i dont think it would be that easy...i'm sure i'm not the first to complain to the main benefits or HR office.
It's basically a 'customer service' email address that i sent the email to. A benefits@blahblah.com address. I got an auto email back saying. To provide the best service we can we will try and respond within 2 business days, yadayada. It wasnt like i sent it to a person.

Even if you created and sent the email from your computer at home. None of the information would be included in the email. It would only include the server the message came from (e.g. smtp.mail.com). Technically speaking, mail.com would likely have logged that info. However, that information would not be readily available to your employer.
Thus - it's very unlikely any effort would be made to trace it back.
That said - your effort is also likely in vain. Anonymous opinions aren't exactly highly regarded.
So you are upset over the policy and sent an anonymous email? What did you hope to gain but make the company think there's a bunch of whinny crybabies who are wimps. They probably used it as their joke of the day.
