Any time, sales people on the same team are pitting themselves against each other, means that the sales team is probably "out of control" with the sales management (e.g. - VP of Sales) unable or unwilling to manage these folks. It's not a good environment to work in. Sales people are naturally competitive, but working against your own team, is a sign that there are too many "lone rangers" on the team, poor management, or both.
A pre-sales engineer is part of the sales team, supporting one or more of the sales people. You will (willingly or not) get dragged into the "turf wars".
