There are no laws here I am aware of that guarantee free time. The standard seems to be 2-4 weeks for "normal" jobs. In my case I work for myself, so in theory I could take a week off here or there, but I actually like my job and the money that I would lose not working for a week doesn't seem to justify it.
Thanks for the link. Seems like a lot of Americans fear to be replaced or miss out on promotions when taking free time. Especially when working for smaller businesses.
Wouldn't you think if a worker gets a few weeks off, he'd be more productive and efficient in what he's doing? I'd think a company would get better results when it's workers are rested and clear headed.
I am starting off with 18 days PTO + 6 paid holidays. I can borrow against the time up to 10 days, so I don't have to wait to accrue it. Can only carry over 4-5 PTO days.
PTO will step up in year 2 and eventually max out to 6.5 weeks at the beginning of the 5th year of service.
I currently get 19 vacation days, 12 sick days and 13 paid holidays. This is after 10 years.
I have accrued 160 hours of vacation and 600 hours of sick time. Sick time can be used to pay for health coverage at retirement.
I'm starting a new job in a month, will get 15 vacation days, 13 sick days, 13 paid holidays and 5 more floating holidays.
