An auditor just showed up this morning in my office. Surprise visit. Everything went well. But at the end, I got 1 NCR (non compliance reports) for 2 missing DOT manuals.
I wanted to get this resolved right away so I called the department of transportation on these manuals because... I never heard of them before. I asked my documentation engineer and he never heard of them either.
2 different people from the department of transportation told me that both of these manuals were retired back in... wait for it... 1987.
So, we submitted a challenge with a detail explanation challenging the NCR.
Here's the thing. I just spoke with a colleague of mine in another office and he said they got hit with the same NCR by the same guy last month. They also challenged the guy and explained to him why they didn't have the manuals in their office.
Any auditor here? Is this some sort of test for us or is this particular auditor senile? This is my first NCR and I'm not particularly happy about it.
sounds like an upper management thing being passed down to auditor. i doubt he would make the same mistake at multiple places without making an effort to it, and in that case, there is something behind making the auditor do it? its getting to be election season, auditors are semi-political in upper reaches. Orders might be passed down to make it seem like there is "action"/work being done to prove themselves.
maybe check to see if any others are coming out of that auditing office, so it isnt just that one person.

It's probably something in his checklist and it should be removed.

I used to do audit and this is a very likely explanation.
