I agree....it's far easier to get a new employee to 'lighten up" relax and dress down then it is to make a silk purse out of...well ....you know what I mean.

Yes, I had that happen to me what I was looking for a waitress job when I was in grad school. I dressed nice to apply and interview and never got an offer. I went to another restaurant in jeans and a t-shirt and got hired on the spot. I do think you can overdress for these lower level jobs. We wore uniforms at work, so how we dressed didn't mean that much. Also from talking to managers they didn't want to hire people who looked "too good" to work hard. I asked about one applicant they didn't hire who was dressed nice and they said they would never last so why waste the time.

That's an interesting perspective. My first job I ever got or interviewed for, I was half drunk, and wearing shorts and flip-flops. Needless to say they hired me on the spot.
