It's more acceptable if it's coming from the entire team rather than an individual. But that is tricky too. Not everyone celebrates Christmas. What is still somewhat common though are secret santa exchanges which are strictly opt-in.
Every office is different. From my own experiences, this went out of fashion ages ago, but there was a time when office workers did exchange some small gifts with each other like a bottle of wine, etc. My boss takes us out once in a while to dinner (nothing fancy) just to show his appreciation for our hard work and commitment. Nevertheless, it's rare nowadays, and you're probably better off not buying any gifts for a boss or colleagues because it may create an awkward moment even if it was meant to be nothing but a nice gesture.
I work for a very small company - they give a generous Christmas bonus - my "thank you" is a small gift back (such as wine or a book about his favorite team) which I think is appropriate - I have been here over 20 years and it just seems like a nice gesture.
i just started a new job a couple of months ago. my boss is really nice. she's very warm and gives me hugs when she sees me, which is about once every 2-3 weeks. I am pretty sure our family is in a better position than hers financially as she supports like 9 family members mainly by herself. she's always giving herself to her family and not much to herself. I'd like to give her something for Christmas. I'm thinking like a nice scarf. do you give gifts to your boss? does that seem weird?
My gift was to tolerate him.
I make sure the food is presentable, tolerate the jerk customers and their cussing, his attitude and bust as to make the deli look good and be profitable. In this way, he looks good and gives me less crap.
Yes. At my old job, my team & I (supervisor included) had worked together for several years. We'd always exchange gifts during the holidays. I'd give gift cards, bottles of wine, chocolates or toffee, etc. I see nothing wrong with it.
