I moved over year ago, husband followed last spring and took some time off to remodel our new house. We tried to keep an eye on the labor market (he is a licensed electrician), and it seems fairly robust. At home shows and such, every casual conversation he had with a company seemed promising. Watching the classifieds, there were 3 to 4 electrician ads in the paper every week. Then, come Dec, they all dried up. Now, its one ad every 2 to 3 weeks. We finally finished our bathrooms, so he went pounding the pavement today. It does not look good. Most everyone said it was really slow, and not just the normal winter slowdown. He checked the bulletin board at the local supply house, nothing. And the guy at the counter said he has heard his customers, guys who work by themselves, talking about how they have been getting cold calls at home from job seekers. The good news, he got one very good lead, but it depends on the company winning some bids.
Is anyone else out there searching and noticing a lack of hiring? How is the job market in your neck of the woods?
I was told recently by my temp agency that there are "no jobs" even though the Salt Lake Valley supposedly has a thriving job market. She said it had to do with the time of year but I have this weird feeling that something has changed.
I work at a law firm and I am getting cold calls from court reporters which has never happened before, my records services are telling me they are struggling and another vendor said he was going to have to get a second job because his commission checks stopped coming.

Our law firm, though, is doing pretty good.
I'm now employed with three jobs, going to school part-time.
I know that there are at least 10 more openings for PC tech jobs in the gallatin Valley. And thats with a general population of like... 80k.
Gosh I feel like there are no jobs out there!
I have been looking since August and have only had 2 interviews, I was told by one company looking for employees that they received 40 resumes in just 3 days for a part time job.
It's crazy and quite frankly I have never been so scared about what is happening with the economy. I try to be optimistic but it's really hard when you have good skills but can't find a good job.
My husband lost his job last month, he is the higher income earner and he has been applying all over the country and hasn't gotten a phone call yet??
Full employment where I live in Texas. 12.5 billon in new industrial expansion to last for the next 10 years. But there are always some areas hurting no matter what the overall jobless rate is.
IMHO heard similar stories of trademen at church.
lesson seems to be if you are older, even very skilled
dont drop out of job market for long periods of time
