I'm seriously exploring the possibility.

I need to figure tax implications first. My friend, who also teaches, earned $250 last week in a few hours of spare time. She enjoys it and has figured out the cost/benefit ratio for her.

Where I live you need upgraded auto insurance and licensing fees. Also you need to consider the costs of driving including repairs and depreciation. A low estimate would be $0.30/mile.

I suspect I would earn more and have less stress and risk working for McDonalds or being a Walmart greeter.

This will have little or no effect on the Uber phenomenon. If there are numerous such events, then there will merely be a bit more oversight and background checks required. This nut could have just as easily been a cab driver, postal worker, or even a retired city data poster.
