I just finished working on my resume after spending hours and hours writing, editing, proofing and changing it. It became an obsession, it had to be absolutely perfect.

I was convinced it was a masterpiece until I showed it to my wife. She tore it apart and made all kinds of great changes and saw all kinds of typos and grammar issues. After she worked on it I was now convinced it was perfect. Well not so fast! I decided to show it to my best friend who does a lot of business writing and is an expert in MS Word and grammar, etc. He made even more wonderful changes to the document and spotted mistakes both my wife and I missed.

I am thinking of now showing it to even more people. It's incredible what additional eyes on your resume can do.

Have you ever sent out a resume that you thought was perfect but later were embarrassed by it. Tell us more!

So you and your wife both proof read it and someone else still found more mistakes?

You should probably go ahead and retire now if your resume is that bad.

I certainly have. I hadn't touched my resume in nearly two years before undergoing my latest job search. I cut a lot for brevity, edited some things, and streamlined it overall. It's a process that needs to occur fairly regularly.
