Scenario:

You are no longer at your very lucrative position so you started your own small business.

You personally financed the venture and are making slow/controlled growth with profits already rolling in.

You've also placed your resume in the webosphere just in case things go awry with said small business, and you are now being headhunted (and not from contracted recruiters but the companies themselves) with very tempting offers.

What do you do? Your small business is again growing but you also have plenty of financial goals you could more easily obtain if you had two sources (or at least one really big source) of income. But small businesses require MUCH more than small amounts of time to nurture and taking a job offer might fill your coffers but hurt your true aspirations... yet having more capital would allow you to release the throttle on your controlled growth and possibly allow for appointing a manager in the small business... take on a partner? hmm

Thoughts?

Can you work the business at night? Can you make calls during breaks & lunch? Can you meet clients in the evening?

Take job, hire someone to run business with profits...?
you won't see profit because it is being used to grow business but well... why not? You'd have job to provide living expenses

Why start a company when you're still looking for a job?

Or why look for a job when starting a company?

Either you're all in or not at all.

Can they 1099 you as an independent contractor? See if they'd be willing to sign an IC contract. Have a lawyer spell it out. Money well spent. Is this project work? Does the job require an on-site presence, or can it be accomplished remotely?
