I usually arrive 20-30 minutes before my scheduled start time. I like to have some time to myself.
This. I come in 30 minutes early to settle in. I hate when people come in and have to do personal stuff and are getting paid for it. On the flip side, I never come in too early because it can make some people feel like you're stepping on their toes. Like job was very close to my house. I'd be an hour to 45 minute early. The secretary had a real attitude about it. Note, I wasn't violating rules or bothering higher ups, the sec just got annoyed.
A guy I worked with had a great saying, it goes, "If you aren't 15 minutes early for work, you are late !" That is my philosophy too, and I get there anywhere from 10-20 minutes early, depending on traffic. I haven't been one minute late in years.
I log in at around 7am every day, try and leave by 4pm and most of my co-workers work 9am to 4:30pm. And somehow I'm considered the one who is not working as hard as they are.
I roll in around 9:30 but I usually stay until 7:00 or 7:30 and I often work weekends. Haven't had any complaints. If I scheduled it, I could get away with an even later start time. But then I'd need to make up the time somewhere else.
I work from home and can have flexible hours - as long as I'm making quotas. I usually start at 8:30am so I log in about 8:15 and get everything prepped for the day.
Of course, because I work from home and have been doing this for 4 years, my time is "looser" than that of others. I am for about 8 hours of actual work each day, verify I've made quota before logging off each day. Sometimes, that means 6-7 hours, others that means 8.5. But I also will make work calls/answer emails off hours - as long as my quotas are good, no one is complaining (well, no one who matters)
My husband has made it a habit to ALWAYS be at work 15 minutes early - He did this when he was the boss and now that he's not, he still does. Whether or not the boss is there on time, my husband is there waiting for the door to be unlocked at least 15 minutes ahead of time. The boss is late 2-3 times a week, so husband's hours are manually input every day - they no longer require him to use the time clock, just text his start and end time to the boss each day
Retired now, but with only 8 minute drive with no stop lights, arrived within a minute of start time. I never saw a reason to arrive early. I was always right to work, no fooling around. The few that arrived 15-30 minutes early never impressed me because they weren't as hard of workers as some of the others. I know that is not always the case, but this was how it happened to be at my workplace. The office was small enough to know the other's work habits.
