Have you considered just using a walker or a wheelchair and still using your mind and upper body to continue to be a productive citizen?

Of course, a lot depends on your age, how much you have in savings, how your illness is progressing and how many years you have left to live a relatively normal, relatively pain free life or any life at all.

This is a tough one. I'm 30 and probably have one year left before I transition to a wheelchair. I just got a job out in San Francisco (i'm on east coast) and was thinking whether I should take the leap or not, so I wanted to inquire about others' experience in this area.

If you don't mind me asking, but how did you find out you had the disorder and how far along was it when you found out? Sounds scary.

Have known about it since I was a teen. Doctors sent me to specialist after specialist but they have no precise diagnosis. Obviously, it's hard to treat something when the doctors can't even tell me what's going on. It's gotten considerably worse recently.

My SO's mother has MS (multiple sclerosis) & is on disability. She works a little office job a few days a week for I think 3-5 hrs.

Very sorry to hear that. Do you have friends or family out here in CA? If you start having problems you want people around you who can help out.
