I would start cooking meth and try to leave something for the wife and kids.....
Seriously though; If I knew that I was terminal I would quit and relax for the next two years. I am single with no dependents (except for the dogs/cats). I would probably buy a boat and do some exploring. When I was no longer capable of living on my own I would do a lethal dose of morphine to get it over with.
I once worked with a guy that was a tire engineer. He was diagnosed with Melanoma that spread. He was getting treatment and seemed to be getting better. He was in work on Friday and I talked to him; he seemed fine. Monday morning I was reading e-mails and one said "Services for Chris XXXXX will be held on Thursday......." He had passed away over the weekend.
Are you kidding? I would work like there is tomorrow. Why? Because the top items on my bucket list include leaving a mark on this world that will last a very long time. My will even says to mix my ashes in concrete that will be used for a concrete structure that will be around for a very long time.
That's an incredibly weird outlook, made even weirder that you think your opinion would be the common opinion (implied by you saying "Are you kidding").
Heck no I wouldn't work. I'd spend every last second with my family and friends.
Two years and a week left? I would MAX out all of my Credit Cards, buy a Life Insurance policy to cover the debt (2 year to go in force?). Then I would start on my "bucket lst".
Hypothetical - If you knew you were going to die in let's say two years, would you go to work or would you quit right away and spend your last years completing your bucket list?
If I knew I was going to have to work, it would kill me.
I have a friend with a serious cancer diagnosis who is still working. They are very wealthy and her husband makes buckets of money on his own, but she does have insurance through her job. Her children are in high school and college. I think that in addition to not wanting to change insurance coverage, the main reason she keeps working is because it makes her feel normal to follow her routine. That and her husband and children can't really take off to do the bucket list.
I haven't asked her, but this is what I think is going on there.
If I didn't have to work I don't know what I would do in such a situation, but I don't think I'd keep working.
