How would you feel if you found out your current or potential employer donated money to a politician you do not support, on either a federal or local level?

Would you consider not taking job or quitting an existing job over it?

Meh... doesn't matter.

Conversely, should you be able to be fired if you donated money to a politician they do not support?

The answer is, "It depends." Speaking in generalities, I would not refuse to work for someone because of their political beliefs, nor would I want them not to hire me because of mine.

To be clear I am not talking personal contributions by executives or owners, but rather donations from the company itself with company money.

My thought on it was that you are making them that money. If you are in sales and you sell a $5m deal, its possible some of that money will end up in the pocket of a politician you disagree with.

That's how life works. If I am stocking shelves I am making sure my store (boss) has product to sell in order to make money and stay in business. The owner of the store can do whatever they want. Even if I owned my own business, I am buying supplies from someone else, which makes them money to do with as they please. It would have to be pretty extreme for me to draw a line in the sand.

I think there's a difference between able to and wanting to. I certainly prefer that my employer won't choose to make hiring/firing decisions based on my political affiliation (and other factors). But I also don't think they should be prevented from having the freedom to do so. I know this gets in that area of 'should discrimination be illegal" - but I think that's out of scope of this discussion.

And you were paid for that service. Unless you have a stake in the company, what they do with the profits is of no concern to you. Just as how you spend your salary should be of no concern to your employer.

They offer me a paycheck, they don't ask my political observations and theirs makes no difference to me....(Even if I know what they are)

Personally I don't think companies should be allowed to make political donations.

However I'm not aware of what, if any, political contributions were made by my company and I don't care.

I don't believe companies should be allowed to make political donations. As individuals yes but as a corporate body no. A large result of the mess in our economic system is because we have corporations in bed with the government.

Not something I would be thrilled with. But I would still prefer that to having union dues forcibly extracted so that they can then be laundered to the DNC.
