I work from home FT and am project-based which means I can take my kids to their events (which I don't mind at all) as early as 4:30 some days. It's a great perk and I see that as quality time for myself just the same. I see quite a few other parents there and they range from stay at home moms, to teachers, to contractors who simply box out that afternoon every week.
As for getting up - 8am most days (if the neighbor's g'damn dog doesn't wake me at 7 first), just cause my kids gotta get ready for school.
I get up between 6:30-7:00am
Out the door between 8:00-8:15
Arrive at work between 8:30-8:45
Leave work at 5:00
Get home at 5:30
Go to bed around 11:00pm
Someone mentioned long commuting time. This is the best commute I've ever had. I live in the Baltimore/Washington Area and it can take an hour to just go 10 miles around here. I somehow managed to actually find a job in an area that is fairly close to home (14 miles) and not on a major commuter road.

Get home? most nights I head straight to the gym, and get home between 9 and 10, usually.
My son is grown, but when he was younger, I came home, fixed him dinner, and we both went to the gym, or headed up to the school bleachers. Only a couple of nights a week that we would stay home.
3AM. I do something for extra income in the mornings.
