All day. Stuff to do. I could see leaving early if you have one of those jobs where you sit and surf the web for half the day, but every job I have had has been task oriented. So, if there is work, you do it, you don't just say, "Tra la la, think I'll go, I guess..."

I was only needed for a 4 hour shift on my last day but it took over an hours after that to say good bye to everyone. It was a great day and a sad day all at the same time.

I usually clear out my desk about 2-3 days in advance and clear up my PC the previous day. I back-up my files on a disk and take them with me.

On the day, I have an exit interview, have lunch with colleagues and then wish everyone goodbye.

On one job that I left, my team had happy hour and a dinner planned for me, so I arrived at the office at 8:00 AM, worked the entire day, went to happy hour, then dinner and did not arrive home until 11:30 PM!

I was making sales to the end. They gave me a great referral for the next job. I was ambitious and there were no openings. Much good regard back and forth.

Mandatory HR exit? Mandatory?!

Man, you give these guys way too much authority. Do they make you stand at attention, too?

I haven't had a good experience here, and simply want to leave immediately after mandatory HR exit and anything I need to tie off with manager. I'm basically telling them I'm out by noon at the latest, handing my keys over, and heading out the door!

How long have you worked on your last day?
I happily worked my last 8 hours giving great customer service even to a witch who came by often and she said "Well, this is more like it! Why haven't you done this type of customer service before?" I replied "Because today's the last day I see your wrinkled prune of a face ever again. I'm SO DAMN HAPPY about that!"

She...Uh...said things I can't type....

I worked 8 hours.
I think if you are an hourly worker, it is fine to leave after your exit interview. If you are salaried and being paid for the day, it may be best to give the 8 hours.

I left at lunch. I was told I was free to go when I was ready about ten minutes after I got the. I really enjoyed the people I used to work with. It was difficult to leave but I had to cut the cord.

My last day I walk in tell them it's my last day, load my tool box and leave. When im laid off I load my box and go right away. no need to hang around. I never give advance notice either. my trade doesn't rely of referrals from previous companies to get a job.
