What are the pros and cons of working for a big company vs a small company listing them on the resume?

On the resume, will big Fortune 500 companies look better than small, unknown mom & pop businesses?

Big companies on resumes look better than small.
Big companies are more organized which can be a good or bad thing.
Small companies will give you more exposure to real-world work as you may wear multiple hats.

Big companies often offer better pay(sometimes) and better benefits(the vast majority of the times).

Some Fortune 500 companies are better than others so select wisely for your resume.

Doesn't make much difference. Make sure the job description is complete, so that people can understand what you do.

In some circles, leaving a large company can be seen as a red flag. Some people see working for a large company as the ultimate in employment security and they cannot understand leaving the large company for a smaller one where there may be more opportunity. So you have to be clear.

But I've seen nasty politics in all sizes of companies, too.

It's nice getting good broad experience in small companies when you wear many hats. Then when you get to a big company maybe you could be worth more, too.

I talked to a guy at the airport that said he had to work at small town companies before hitting the big time companies in the big cities.
