It depends on where you live in the United States. Some areas pay $X and some pay $XX for the same job. Which is best depends on the cost of living in the area, and the unemployment rate in the area.

In our area, McDonald's pays that much, and in some areas McDonald's pays $8 for the same job. The same for a lot of jobs. Opinions you will see from the postings on this thread, are based on local conditions.

I have known females in various trades, finish carpentry, electrician, and tree care, although admittedly not roofing. I suppose they are not ladies. Just women who make money and feed their children. With money left over since they made well more than $16 an hour.

She said she's not interested in those kinds of jobs. It's like asking an accountant why they didn't become a lawyer instead? Maybe their brain isn't wired to understand legal speak. It's whatever a person wants or feels like they can do.

It's not a gender thing. If OP isn't interested, she isn't interested. At least she knows what she doesn't want to/can't do.

Call center such as auto insurance claims department or customer service rep. Just have to deal with being on the phone all day, people hanging up on you, working weekends, etc.

I agree with Call Centers. A lot of them are not really bad, and most of them are through recruiters. Just make sure you ask for more because recruiters will always try to give you less. My previous job some were paid $9 while others made $12 and $15.

Do some research on the company and search on Indeed. If you're not good with computers, don't let that overwhelm you. They will teach the basics that you need for your job.

Here in southern New England.

Warehouse picker

Store room - tool room clerk (manufacturing)

Cashier at some stores (varies widely)

Inside Sales (phone center for internet and catalog companies)
