Hello Everyone,
Well this happened to me 6 years ago and it STILL makes me mad as hell!!!

I just wonder if anyone else has had something similar like this happen to them??

I was with the company for over 29 years. I never EVER had a disciplinary write up EVER I won awards for attendance, work ethic, territory growth and even for safe driving. Fast forward 23 years later The company got bought out with a all new HR dept, and new management and that is when it went downhill FAST.

I was a repair and service manager and had a territory and was very good at what I did I was one of the few GO TO GUYS in the company for many techs that needed help or personal assistance, I often would be flown all over the USA to help out with the techs that were struggling a bit. This is a BIG company.

3 years after we got bought out the company finally got to my region and my supervisor got laid off, and he was replaced with the idiot that I had issues with. They changed how things got done including paperwork, maintenance procedures and other areas that made some customers really mad and caused other problems and we almost lost a national account over it.

I started to get WAY behind because I had to adhere to these new changes. When I got so far behind I asked NUMEROUS TIMES to have help sent to me to help me get caught up.

I was told I am GREAT... I CAN HANDLE IT, and knowing this affects my customers and their ability to service their customers I knew after ( 4 ) months of this that I had NO CHOICE but to to go over the bosses head and get upper management involved.

Well, to my surprise, just one call that I made to HR got the REGIONAL DIRECTOR flown into my office the next day and he was so angry that things were so bad!!

I only got chastised for not calling them sooner and within 48 hours I had 6 people flown in to help get things " fixed." I also had 2 additional people hired full time to work with me because they clearly saw that I was tremendously overworked.

Well, my idiot boss got in BIG TROUBLE... and he called me and asked why I went over his head, he said I will see what happens to me very soon. And with in 2 weeks I was FIRED. he put in my record things that were not accurate and terminated me for things I never did Including stealing from a customer and cursing at the customer as well as threatening them with violence

( that customer also verified that all as false and that I was EXCEPTIONAL to them over the years)

I scratch my head wondering why the VP did not step in to save my job? how could the HR team allow this to happen?

so for a few years after I was terminated I struggled and now due to health issues decided to retire. This whole thing has me so mad!!! its hard to let it go because I never had work problems. I did the right thing, was good to my employer, customers, and co workers, I went above and beyond and never had any disciplinary action against me. I loved my work and had many good years there all taken away because someone personally did not like me.

but... the end has a bit of a sweet ending..................

in 2015 the company got bought out AGAIN, there was a all new upper management team as well as a new HR team but my idiot boss made it through the new buyout. Basically the company now is all new for the 2nd time.

I decided to call the new HR folks and tell them what happened to me and apparently they decided to open a investigation and they sent to my customers a letter asking for their recollection of events and the company found out I was framed for things I DID NOT DO.

In mid January I got a call from them telling me even though they were not part of the company back then I was told they do not tolerate ANY retaliatory actions to anyone for blowing the whistle and it was clear to them that this is EXACTLY what happened to me and they have dealt with it appropriately.

I thanked them and in a few weeks I received a letter from them stating what I was told on the phone.

Thanks to linkedin and social media I found out that in early January my idiot boss was terminated. I am not sure why he was let go I wish I knew if it was because of what he did to me? but either way, he is gone and I hate to say it but I hope he suffers for it.

I hate right to work states and we should not be let go for frivolous things because you have a boss that personally dislikes you. If you do a GREAT JOB that should be what matters. There should be protection for good hard working people that work hard and are honest.

anyone else have a similar story??

You know what I hate? People who complain and whine about something yet never explain the connection of their story to their complaint. What the heck does not having to join a Union have to do with your story?

Never understood why people think right to work is the same as right to fire

All right to work means is that you can work without being part of a union

So how does right to work mean anything in the case of this firing? Nothing really.

Maybe if you had joined a union, they would have lawyer take your case, but that isn't a right to work issue either since you would be free to join the union when employed

But if you didn't have a union, what difference is it?

Right to work is a euphemism for a right to work without being in a union, but it also means that you can be terminated for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

It's also a misunderstanding of the law... I think the "at-will" status is what people refer to but again I don't get their view point. Don't do anything to get fired and you won't get fired. Laid off maybe but not fired

That's not true in my experience. I've seen first hand that if a company wants you gone that badly, they will make up a reason. I had a coworker who was fired because they claimed she was looking at porn on her computer. They even had some sort of 'proof' that they showed her from IT. This woman was the last one on earth who would even think of looking at porn. And even if she liked porn, she wasn't stupid enough to do it at work. She only used the internet to look up phone numbers for clients.

Same employer will also try to make life miserable for people they want gone. This forces the person to quit or they're so stressed that they screw something up and it gets them fired.

Scummy, but it definitely happens.

Good thing your prior employment didn't require research!

Right To Work = Not required to join a labor union as condition of employment.

At-Will = Employer or employee can terminate their employment at will without notice or reason.

So, yes you did mention union by using Right to Work and not At Will.

Right to work has absolutely nothing to do with this situation. Nothing.
