Can't have millions of new Trump manufacturing jobs without manufacturing workers. So where are they going to come from? Not too many Americans lining up to do the same thing, all day long, over and over again, for 12 hours a day, 6-7 days a week, for a sustenance life style. And employers will close shop before they ever consider raising wages by even one fraction of a percent. Backwards, always. It's the American way!

At least in my parts manufacturing jobs go through temp agencies for low wages and no benefits. Better off working for Walmart and believe me most do.

Well, no. They can sit at home on Tweeter for a pretty comfortable, if not glamorous living on our dime. If the best you could do was some job paying $8/hour pushing a button at a factory all day, why would you do that? That's why we need illegal immigrants. They can't get the welfare bennies and $8/hr here beats what they'd make in Mexico.

The story makes no sense. If you read the many post right here on CD, everyone and their entire family who are unemployed and have not been able to find ANY job, be it VP of international affairs or burger flipper.

However, since almost everyone claims they are unemployed due to H1B visa holders and illegal immigration, if as we are led to believe, trump will end the H1B visas and deport all illegal immigrants, that is about the only way there will be a shortage of employees.

But, the more likely reason for a shortages will be the same as it is now, we just have a plain old lazy workforce that only wants to be paid, not actually do work.

I'm looking forward to all those old plants opening back up, and the auto industry abandoning the billion dollar automation robot facilities they've built, so all parts and cars can be made in the USA. I'm also looking forward to them paying the manual workers $40-$60 an hour plus, company sponsored health benefits for their families, pension, and 401(k) matching and three weeks of vacation a year for starters. What I'm not looking forward to, however, is paying $100k+ for a car that previously cost $35K a year.

How are they going to get the workers? Easy, they will get all these millennials to drop out of that expensive college, and return to the factories and learn a trade instead of a degree and a job sitting at a desk. Because that's what real men should do, work in a factory. As for the women, well, they just need to stay home to take care of their men and have babies who will also work in the factory that will build the $100K+ cars for middle class America.

I hope this answers your question?

Really? Employers preferring to shut down and move instead of giving the workers a raise? They still working for $5 a day? Where?

The manufacturing jobs need skilled workers. These aren't the menial turn-a-bolt bob jobs of the past. The problem is a smart person is likely to go into a more lucrative field than manufacturing.

That depends. I work in the auto industry. While automation is more prevalent than ever, there is still menial work that needs to be done, and this work is not popular by any stretch of the imagination. It is tedious, boring, monotonous and there is a reason companies used to pay people exceptionally well to perform this labor... Because it sucks! To expect Americans to line up to do this work for low wages is absurd, but that's what many companies have come to expect. Which is why you often hear them whining about their silly labor shortage problem that they created.
