Are lazy, incompetent employees given a free pass in your company and immune to any consequences? The type who somehow avoid responsibility and when they have to work screw everything up and everyone else has to clean up their messes?

is this before or after the whiny guys post on CD about how they are overworked and underpaid, because regardless of what you say about other employees, the work seems to get done somehow, it's like magic. I set back and turn around and look, its all done.

maybe you are watching the wrong things, they know how to get the work done while being "lazy". If it takes 5 minutes to process something, but only 1 minute more for an additional task, batching the work is more time efficient. Letting it gather together then doing it at one time instead of multiple small tasks make more sense if it isn't one that needs to be done right away

Where my wife works yes. She had a co worker come in late in clothes that were against the dress code, she would take a 2 hour lunch (shopping trip) most days and had almost no production. When the supervisor finally got in her face about it she turned around and tried to sue them for racism! Later on they realized she lied on her resume to cover up job hopping, but still wouldn't fire her. Thankfully she left voluntarily a couple weeks ago.

Where I've worked was high pressure at will employers who had to get contracts every couple months to stay in business. A few good people got fired that I wish would have been given more leeway but we didn't have clowns wasting company time either. If you were caught texting during work hours once you were fired on the spot. I would prefer that to what my wife got to deal with.

No they are not. They are not hired where I work. Eveyone is overly ambitious where I work and it truly seems like work is their life and they never take a break. It's exhausting.

Why do you keep starting these types of threads?

Perhaps you should go back to school or something?

Like most things, it depends. But in general yes. And, before someone goes there, yes I do in fact know since I'm the one who keeps the production statistics in our office. Yes, there is often a significant difference between results and the boss's perception of results. We have two for example that the boss's perception of there work is the opposite of their actual data. What I do find interesting is when I put the data in front of the supervisor, he explains away the data to match his perception rather than changing his perception to match the truth.

I know of lazy slackers who were "liked" and outlasted the hard workers, or the harder working people had to pick up the slack when lazy slackers were late, absent, or when they spent most of their time parked at various desks chatting/gossiping and causing trouble while grinning in faces.

In the worst case that I went thru the boss wasn't around much and rarely monitored slacker's work. She did what HE asked and knew how to play the game. Complaints were met with "give her a chance" or "she's a single parent" or some other excuse. Finally when the right people got fed up and complained she would knuckle down - for awhile. Then she would start up all over again. The nonsense went on for a year and she finally quit.
