Not necessary, if I want a day off I take PTO and no one cares why, and they don't ask. Simply "I'm staying home today" is sufficient. My staff usually give a day or two notice for one day off but sometimes it will be early the same day, they just have to text me before their start time.
Yes- we called them "mental health days" and it was widely accepted at my former place of employment. As long as you didn't abuse it. Basically, they were acknowledging that you didn't have a physical illness but that you needed a break that day.
How does one "pull a sickie", you mean call in sick when you aren't?
Most companies have gone to the PTO concept - personal time off. Doesn't matter the reason - sick, family emergency, vacation, or just need a day off (within reason). Doesn't matter, it's all the same. Join a company that is embracing the new century.
