I saw a position get posted online so I went through my university alumni to find people working there and reached out to 2 people about helping find the hiring manager's or recruiter's contact. Only 1 responded and he sent me the recruiter's email.

I've tried applying for positions through the website in the past even putting down that someone referred me but never heard anything. I've sent quite a few applications to this firm over the years so not sure how much information they can see about me.

Should I just email this recruiter and hope for the best or is there a better approach? I think it would be worse to try to cold email the hiring manager if I dig and find this info.

Have you had a second pair of eyes look at your resume? Those big HR departments often will use scanning software that looks for certain keywords and if your resume doesn't have one or all of those words it may not even get looked at.

But yes, I would email the recruiter directly, let him/her know how you got their information so they don't think you're some creep who is internet stalking them. Ask how you can get an in-person interview for the role.

Investment banks are notoriously difficult to get into, btw. Some of the hardest jobs to land. Often times you have to know someone or have an Ivy League education to even get a sniff. Good luck!

You need to look at the writing on the wall. They do not believe you will be a good fit at this time. Move on and find a job gain some experience then try again.
