An example where you felt people were not sympathetic would have been helpful. Without that I'll comment the following:

A job is something you choose. If you are miserable you can look for another job. If you cannot leave, then you have to figure out a way to make it work.

If the boss is doing anything illegal or unethical you can become a whistle blower, or report the company to OSHA, or report your boss to the company higher ups.....Or, the Dept. of Labor for labor violations, discrimination or sexist actions.

In short, there are things a person can do in America.

I have seen much sympathy, as well as folks giving their opinions if they are less than sympathetic. Each person will experience things differently.

How true (unfortunately) Some times the choice is to adapt to the situation or move on.

Yes, one can do those things. But the one time I filed a complaint about unethical, illegal actions by my manager at a medical laboratory, actions that put patients at risk (and had sent at least one to the ER), she retaliated by filing a completely fictitious police report against me and our MD. I had to hire an attorney and deal with that mess, and though 20 of my 21 complaints were verified in a surprise inspection of the laboratory, she somehow kept her job. (I quit before even filing the complaint).

Some managers are truly evil.

There's so many of them you can't get sucked into feeling like a victim of a "bad" boss. A good manager is rare indeed and I can only remember the good ones on one hand.

You get no sympathy because WE'VE ALL been there before and had to slog our way through it.

Suck it up buttercup.

Life ain't easy. You'll get there one day.

You gotta take the good with the bad. Ego is amazing, and if not one fool, then it's another fool. We all go through it, some more than others. Put your time in, then retire and enjoy yourself. Anyone who stays longer than necessary, it probably isn't all that bad then.

I think the post's intent is a mix of real complaints about the OP's work and the continual lack of empathy for OPs who talk about their bosses. Sure, there are many times when the OP really did something wrong but there are enough of times where it is warranted. It's both sides. The problem is there are just a lot of people with a lot of different views.

If someone is truly getting the shaft then I suggest they document every instance of it because they need to take that documented proof to whoever in their company is responsible for handling such things. And they need to be factual, not general complaints or he said she said.

Companies have policies and procedures for a reason: one of the most important being that they offer both the employee and management a performance expectation from which any deviance, perceived or real, can be determined.

I've had bad bosses before and I've had great bosses before. I've been the boss as well and one of the first things you learn as the boss is that if you have two people reporting to you,one of them will think you're OK and the other one will think you stink. So you manage per the company's handbook, treat everyone as fairly and consistently as possible, and go home knowing you did your best.

I've noticed a lot of people are just selfish really. As long as it isn't happening to them they don't care...or it is happening to them and they think you should be quiet and accept it. A lack of empathy is the issue here.

One of the more interesting developments I have seen in the workplace in the last ten years is the sense of "my voice/concern matters". That is, each employee thinks that his/her concerns are valid no matter how far removed from reality those concerns are, and that very same employee's frustration when the boss is not giving his/her concerns a fair shake.

I call it an alternate reality syndrome.
