Have you ever had a co-worker finish out their 2 weeks notice by giving lazy, lackluster efforts?

We had a team member leave us around three weeks ago. This person was a pretty good worker, someone we all enjoyed working with. However, after she put in her notice and was allowed to finish out the 2 weeks, the quality of her work dropped off big time. We all understood it since she was moving on, but it probably would have been better if she just didn't bother coming in at all.

Ironically I am currently working off my 4 weeks notice (still have 2 weeks to go)

I don't think I could just sit back and see out my final weeks without putting the same work-effort in as I usually do! It would be un-professional I think.

Currently I am doing some detailed handover documentation of all the processes I have been overseeing over the last 18 months. It keeps me busy and helps pass the time up until I do finally close this particular chapter in my career.

But I guess we all have different work-ethics, and perhaps your bosses should have let her go earlier, or put her on "garden-leave"

My last day is supposed to be Friday, but I have already finished all of my projects and this is the slow season, so I am using PTO for the next two days. But if there was actual work to do, I would have been just as productive as I had been all along.

I'm on my second-to-last day at my current company. The last few days I have been leaving early and not doing much because the type of work we do requires a significant investment of time. Ever since the company found out I was leaving, they tapered off my workload by assigning it to other developers and I have been on hand to answer questions and to knock out some of the low-hanging fruit that our architect really wanted done (that doesn't affect the main product).

Now that I'm done with that, I'm just here because I have to be and because it'd look bad if I wasn't. But since people know I'm leaving, they aren't assigning work to me nor are they reaching out to me for anything.

A lot of companies will start removing your access once you put your 2 weeks in.

One company I worked for was so paranoid that I was going to remove information from several sites I was an admin for that before the end of my first day of my 3 week notice they blocked me from all of the sites. So needless to say, I couldn't do much of anything for 3 weeks.

I worked at a place that paid out your 2 weeks and marched you out the door the moment you turned in your notice.

I gave 30 days at my last job and busted my ass until the end. But the job before paid two weeks but took my access away and escorted me out of the door basically. Different companies have different policies and opinions.

I work with people who are like that every day to be honest..

But yeah karma can bite back hard. In my current job a young lady who was usually quite diligent was really lazy in her last week and even went AWOL in the final 2 days, saying "har har, my new job pays me more!" It was uncharacteristic of her like she was just rubbing it all in our faces.

Then two weeks ago she applied for her old job back, adding she was "crying every day" at her new job, expecting my boss to be sympathetic. Can anyone guess what happened next?

Companies abuse the hell out of their employees and many times don't even give a notice to them that they will be cut/laid off/ fired. Turnaround is fair play as far as I'm concerned. Maybe if companies would treat their employees like people instead of parasites they wouldn't be quitting to begin with

One big factor in quitting is when you lose motivation. For whatever reason, you just don't care any more, and you're showing up just so you can keep getting paid. In a scenario like that, once you have an offer and give notice, you lose even that much motivation and are just filling a chair at that point. I've worked at a couple of places where if you gave notice, they just paid you out for the two weeks and walked you out the door on the spot. At one, I was looking forward to the payout and either an early start at my new job or a vacation. Sadly, as much as my boss liked to heap abuse on me, he suddenly realized that he was in a bit of a bind, and I didn't get that. I did the best I could to interview replacements and do what training I could while not infecting the poor new guy.
