I have found you don't want to be too skilled and knowledgable in the workplace. Bullseye goes on the back. If it's not true why would they get rid of valuable workers and keep dead wood around?

Whatever they teach you in school doesn't jive with today's contemporary corporate environment

No, not loyal to any manager or any company. They'll kick me to the curb as fast as I'd leave a job for better opportunities and more money. Even if I'm friends with my boss, they usually understand how I work. But no boss should feel he should hold you hostage anyway.
