So I initially accepted a job offer even though I had doubts. My mistake. So a few days before my start date I sent a detailed email apologizing but I was not going to be able to start the job after thinking it through. It was not the right fit for me. So I thought better to let them know now then start and quit.
So the start date was supposed to be Tuesday. I wrote the email on Saturday. I then get an email today of them telling me they are rescinding the offer saying I was a no show. HR also copied the owners on the email. So I responded with my copy of the email that was sent on Saturday.
Why would they email me and rescind an offer when I told them I wasn't going to take the job?
They probably have to have some documentation in your file in case you were to apply for a different job there, or for some reason listed them as a reference (yes, some people do that). A copy of this letter in your file gives them a trail about what happened to you.
Sending them an email on Saturday for a job you were supposed to start on Tuesday was probably not enough advance notice for them to consider it anything but 'no show'. People don't change their minds all that often but when they do, its generally courteous to give more than one business days' notice.
It's annoying but in addition to the email you should have attempted to speak to a live person when the place was open. Sometimes outside email gets undelivered or filtered. Either way, the bridge would have been burned so no big deal.
Maybe your email didn't get to where it was sent or the recipient didn't read it by the time your start day came. Sounds more like they had no idea you declined the position and that is why they took the Rescind for being a No Show. I mean seriously, just read what you wrote and it's pretty clear by their response that they didn't get your decline message!
