I am a PHP Developer in New York with decent freelance experience.

Been on 5 interviews and no offer.

I am thinking that if I don't get an offer after 10 interviews I will give up on PHP.

I think there are too many PHP Developers compared to the demand for PHP Developers.

I will brush up my Java skills (I know some Java) and try to start as a Junior to Mid-Level Java Developer.

I think there is more demand for Java Developers.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Thank You

I would be leary of chasing the latest hot programming language. Lots of impressive work is still done in C.

The market for programmers is not great given the rise of coding camps and offshoring of jobs. But the market for computer science and software engineering is fantastic.

The reason is that the science and engineering folks are the ones coming up with new ideas, new products, new businesses etc. You cant offshore that or teach it in a camp.

Depends on where you are. Demand for PHP (and SQL and C# and anything Java-related) is strong here (north Texas).
