What if you're too good at selling? (collecting, job, companies)

I knew someone who did tv demos on some expensive tv. He cleaned out the warehouse and didn't have any tvs left to sell and it would have taken time to replenish the inventory. It seems the only way he could have kept his job was to lower his sales rate.
Seems like a supply chain/inventory issue and not so much a salesmanship issue. If this person is so good, he should be working for multiple companies selling rather than one with inventory control issues.

Has anyone else ran into this?
I don't believe for one second his bosses told him to lower his sales rate, sorry.
His boss told him that the program was unsuccessful in selling that TV from that particular store (before he started working there).
ocnjgirl, it was his idea to reduce his sales rate to keep his job, not his boss.
That's silly. No salesman in history ever lost his job for selling too well. For that matter, if he's that good a salesman, he should move into more lucrative sales positions in any case. Good salespeople can make hundreds of thousands a year selling high-end goods, and if this tax "reform" *cough* passes, billionaires will be collecting new yachts and cars like Beanie Babies.

Aside from whether your idea actually exists as a working arrangement, I would think it far better to work direct for a retailer in their TV department rather than some marketing firm.

Actually happens all the time. Usually some higher up exec gets jealous about all the money you are making and they change the commission structure so you make less or take your accounts and turn them into house accounts. Once that happens you have no choice but to leave and there you go, you just lost your job because you sold too much.
