I recently had to resign from my job because I was offered a new job in another company. I'm kind of surprised that my coworkers were flat out shocked. I was met with many "WHAT?!" reactions. Are these reactions normal? (I did work for a large company.)

Completely normal. Especially if you kept your job search confidential, why wouldn't they be surprised?

It feels as if people think "where else would you work?" or "omg you quit! What else are you going to do?" It's almost as if they believe life ends if someone leaves or loses their job?

Totally normal. The worst are the people who get pissed at you for getting a better opportunity (yes, this has happened to me!).

I feel like that is a normal social reaction when someone you see every day announces you will no longer be seeing them every day

Sometimes coworkers feel close to you and you develop a bond. Sometimes they feel like you've betrayed the organization or the team. Other times they're just genuinely surprised you're moving on. At the end of the day, you have to do what's best for you and your family.
