It's a stupid term. Just because Uber decided to use the term in their ads doesn't mean we're all supposed to start using it or even accepting it as a legitimate term. It's street slang at best, and it implies putting one over on someone. That's what a hustle is.

Who said you were supposed to accept it? You seem upset.

"Hustling for work" used to be a normal, not-vulgar term back when I was growing up. It meant a go-getter out there trying hard to line up a job.

Nowadays, of course, laziness is the acceptable norm, and people who work very hard and have multiple jobs are looked down upon as naive or foolish, as evidenced by some of the sorry comments in this thread. "You sound fun!" "no time for friends or hobbies" Geeze louise, what happened to the concept of working hard and deferring gratification so you can enjoy life in the future?

"Slow down, you're making the rest of us look bad!!!"

Friends and hobbies don't pay my bills. I like having a social life, but peace of mind in my bank account is more important to me at this stage of my life. It's not my problem if people have a problem with me wanting to work and make extra money here and there. I don't want wind up elderly solely depending on social security

Wish I had time for a side hustle. I'd probably push boxes at UPS or something if I had extra time to play around with.

I used to work at a state government agency. In the evening I would do kitchen prep for a local restaurant 3 or 4 days a week. On weekends, I would paint names on commercial fishing boats at several local fabricators. I mad enough money to buy a house. Today, I am retired but sell plants and produce from our garden and run an on site parking lot/Campground. I never even dreamed I would be doing that.

Full time roadway and bridge engineer. On the side, my spouse and I are live-in house flippers. For example, we are about to close a house at almost 60k in profit after 2 years of living there and doing all the renovations ourselves.

Out ultimate goal is work toward a mortgage-free dream house of our own.

"Side job" to me. Side hustle must be the new trendy word for it.
