What is more prestigious: working in a CPA firm or law firm? Accoutants vs lawyers?

It is a matter of opinion, don't you think?

What is your opinion? To me, it depends on the firm and specialty. Overall, I know both accountants and lawyers and consider them about the same.

To me they are generally even (I am a lawyer for context). The prestige depends more on which firm, in both cases. There are also different disciplines within each. For example, a lawyer who argues cases in front of the Supreme Court has a more prestigious position than a stereotypical "ambulance chaser". Also, I am curious as to the motive for you asking. I would hope that isn't the only barometer in deciding on a career path.

As a cpa, I would say law is more prestigious.

Big four selects mainly from many feeder state universities, while big law is from the elite law schools. I would guess they make far more money. I also wanted to mention that many lawyers work for the big four firms as well, but I doubt many law firms have internal cpas.

As far as a better career? Who knows. Lawyers that are good probably make more but not all lawyers are good or rich. There's a glut of lawyers. Cpas make less but perhaps have more stability. Of all the cpas ive known, none of them have been out of work. Then again, neither have the lawyers I know. But the two careers aren't even that related. There are limited specialities in each field that overlap with each other. You might as well ask if nursing is better than electrical engineering.

It really depends like you said. The big 4 have prestige, but I would say working for a prestigious law firm easily wins out. They take in less people and I think pay a lot more.

Pointless question. With the exception of Tax, the fields simply don't overlap and people who want to be an Accountant typically have no interest to be an attorney and vice versa. Is being a lawyer at Skadden more 'prestigious' than working as a CPA at Deloitte? Maybe but top Big 4 people down the road become CFOs which is pretty prestigious.

Can you deposit prestige in the bank?

Depends on the reputation of the firm. Both industries have very good and horrible reputation in the professional world.
