Let me begin by saying I'm only putting up with this because of the pay. It's a 175K a year job.

First phone interview was rescheduled twice. Then they contacted me for more interviews but after that I didn't hear from them for a week. All of a sudden they said the hiring manager was away but is back now (maybe he left for an emergency work trip). Interviews are scheduled again. Three phone interviews, some of them with my direct reports, one manager and then an in person interview with the hiring manager.

Well, that changed yet again. Now I'm interviewing with three managers on the phone and then the in person with the hiring manager. Oh, and they changed the dates of the in person interview because the hiring manager had another work trip.

The classic red flags are there. It's a step up in pay, but I'm wondering if it's even worth it. I'm skeptical of how actually working there will actually be.

That said, I also have nothing to lose at this point, and can use the interviews for practice. Plus who knows, maybe I'll be the one candidate who doesn't drop out of the process out of frustration and get the job. For all I know they use this to weed people who can't stand constant change out. Plus you never know, it may actually be a great place to work, but this is the crappy part of it, interviewing.

Still, I'm not sure if my time wouldn't be better spent finding a more desirable place to work. I interviewed at a place where I really liked the hiring manager, he was very intelligent, low turnover, good pay, good work, etc. I'm hoping to get an offer on that job this week.

They may have a lot more work than people, so you keep getting shuffled around. Like you said, I don't think you have anything to lose, but I am sure it is frustrating.

it depends on what else attracts you to the job (besides the pay). How's the commute? Will you have more or less responsibility? There really are valid reasons to have that many changes; so i wouldn't discount just based on that (while i agree it's a little nuts - i hope they apologized for so many changes).

However, my philosophy is that it never hurts to go for the interview and get a feel for things. I go to interviews with the attitude that i am also interviewing them - do I want to work for them? Are they a right fit for me? It should never just be about pay - i've done that. It typically doesn't work out because you'll eventually regret the move "for the money".

No good company is going to put you through a stupid interview process like this to simply test you. So I don't think that's the case, I think they are messed up. What I suspect is going to happen, even after all of what you have been through with them, if you continue to play along they are going to end up not filling the position. I say this because the reason they are stringing you along is because they aren't sure what they want to do, and likely don't have real approve to hire anyone for the job.

I dunno...all those little articles people post on LinkedIn would say that you should pay attention to the red flags and that a company that jerks you around during the interview process is going to be a bad place to work, but I've found that that's not really true.

My current company's interview process was as tight as a frog's behind. Moved fast from initial phone screen to phone interview to in person interview to offer in the space of about 2 weeks. I realized pretty quickly after starting here that this department is a dumpster fire.

So...a tight, efficient interview process isn't always a sign of a good place to work. So...why should a sloppy interview process be a sign of a bad place to work?

My company is a great company - but HR sucks. Delays, little to no communication, no feedback - they are famous for this. But the company is still a good company. They just have a bad HR department.

Yes, it is inconvenient, but I wouldn't let that sway you away from the opportunity of the job itself sounds like a good one.
